Tottenham Transfer News: Spurs Suffer Blow in Defender Chase

Tottenham has suffered a blow in their pursuit of signing Inter Milan defender Alvaro Pereira after the player admitted that he is happy with his current employers. The Uruguayan international was linked with a move to White Hart Lane as a replacement for Spurs left-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto.

The 27-year-old moved to San Siro last summer from Andre Villas-Boas' former club FC Porto. The Portuguese manager was looking to rejoin with his former player at the end of the season. However, with Pereira latest remarks, it is clear that the defender will not be able to combine with AVB at the north London club.

"This is a wonderful team and there are no problems between us. I am a new player in this squad, but I can say the whole club and fans only want one thing - to win. An Inter player must always want to win. I respect Inter and that doesn't change knowing other teams are interested [in me]," Pereira told talkSPORT.

Meanwhile, the former Chelsea manager is also set to lose Danny Rose after the player admitted to consider his future with Spurs after the end of the season. The defender, who is currently on a season long loan with Sunderland been in impressive form for the Black Cats.

The 22-year-old has been a regular inclusion in Sunderland's starting lineup. Rose has made 24 Premier League appearances and has managed one assists this season. Rose has now set his eyes on helping Sunderland to stay on top as Paulo Di Canio's side are currently 14 in the league table with 37 points from 34 games, leading 18<sup>th place Wigan Atheltic by six points.

He is valued to be around £8m and was looking forward for a permanent deal with Sunderland this summer, while Martin O'Neill was the manager at the club.

"It's not the time to go speaking to the new manager about what he wants for next season. The main priority is to have Premier League status for next year. I know what I want to do next year and we will just see what happens," Rose explained.

With Pereira set to continue with Inter and Rose considers his future, AVB can now target Real Madrid defender Fabio Coentrao as a replacement for Assou-Ekotto at White Hart Lane.
