Manchester United are planning a summer swoop for Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric, with incoming manager David Moyes reported to be contemplating a £24m bid for the former Tottenham man. The Sunday People reports that Moyes' interest will put him in conflict with Jose Mourinho, who is planning to bring the midfielder along with him if he returns to Chelsea this summer.

Moyes is believed to be a huge fan of the midfielder and he will come in as a replacement for Paul Scholes, who has retired from football. The Red Devils were known admirers of Modric before his transfer to Real Madrid last summer but Daniel Levy's insistence to not sell him to a team in the Premier League meant Sir Alex Ferguson could not sign the Croatian international.

However, there is growing hope in the United management that a deal can be finalised for the Croatia star, with Real Madrid planning a complete overhaul of their squad after the departure of Mourinho. Moyes is also looking to bring Marouane Fellaini to Old Trafford from Goodison Park in order to bolster United's midfield. Brazilian midfielder Anderson is expected to make his way out of the club while Michael Carrick, who will turn 32 this July, may not carry on for much longer.

Modic scored the equaliser for Real Madrid in their Round of 16 Champions League tie against United at Old Trafford, before Cristiano Ronaldo scored the winner to help the Spaniards to progress into the next round.

Teddy Sheringham on Treble Win

Former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham has brought back memories of Manchester United's famous Champions League triumph over Bayern Munich in the 1998/99 season. The Bavarians claimed a measure of revenge for defeat in the final to Chelsea last season, by beating local rivals Borussia Dortmund in this season's final at Wembley.

"We had a little bit of the rub of the green at the right time and we dug deep at the right times as well. We fully deserved it really but you have to have that little bit of luck as well. Even going into the last three games, we had to beat Tottenham in the league, win the FA Cup final and then the Champions League final. We were up against Bayern and knew it was going to be tough but we ground our way through it," he told manutd.com.
