A painting by political artist Kaya Mar shows the Duchess of Cambridge smiling broadly as she holds a crown-wearing baby.

Just weeks before she is set to give birth, Kate Middleton has been depicted breastfeeding the royal baby in a bizarre new painting.

In the rending by London-based political artist Kaya Mar, the Duchess of Cambridge is shown wearing a halo and smiling broadly as she nurses a crown-wearing child.

Prince William's wife, who is expecting her first child next month, also has a corgi - the favourite dog breed of the Queen - sat at her feet.

Mar is known for poking fun at celebrities and political figures in his satirical caricatures. Similar to the Splitting Image puppets, he aims to highlight that they are humans with flaws and imperfections.

One critic said of the painting: "The painting is actually quite creepy! Is she supposed to be competition for the Madonna (not the singer Madonna)?"

A spokesman for Clarence House told IBTimes UK: "We would never comment on an portraits of her unless it was commissioned by the palace."

It's not the first time the Duchess has been the subject of an unusual work of art.

Earlier this year Paul Emsley unveiled his "ghost-like" portrait of the Duchess of Cambridge for the National Portrait Gallery.

Emsley's use of an eerie black background as well as deep lines on Kate's face were said to have aged the 31-year-old by ten years.

"The Duchess explained that she would like to be portrayed naturally - her natural self - as opposed to her official self," Emsley said.
