Google expected to launch a smartwatch called Google Gem iClarified

Artem Russakovskii, co-founder of Android Police, has speculated via Google+ that Google will unveil the device alongside Android 4.4 KitKat on 31 October. Apart from the launch date, the G+ post does not reveal much about the technical features of the smartwatch.

Although there is no official word, Russakovskii seems confident regarding Google Gem.

"I have several interesting rumours that I feel relatively confident about but either don't have a visual evidence or a second confirmation, so I'm going to keep then to G+."

The Google Gem rumour surfaces in the wake of the Motorola xWatch which was expected to be announced alongside the Moto X. Google appears to have decided that the smartwatch is worthy of a Google-branded release. If this turns out to be true, and the smartwatch gets a Google tag, the Google Gem is expected to be compatible with a wide range of Android devices, notes PhoneArena.

Meanwhile, the Android 4.4 KitKat, the latest version of Android, is likely to make its debut with the Nexus 5, making it the first Google device to run Android 4.4. The Nexus 5 is expected to release on 30 October.

The smartwatch speculation comes on the back of several rumours based on Google's announcement regarding its upcoming Nexus devices and new Android software.
