Arsenal Manager Wenger Hints at January Move for Liverpool Striker Target

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has dropped a hint that the Gunners could make an approach for Liverpool striker target Konstantinos Mitroglou in January.

The Greece international has been a transfer target for the Merseyside club as Brendan Rodgers was planning an approach for Olympiacos striker in the winter transfer window. The 25-year-old is believed to be available for a fee of £7m and the Gunners could make an approach for his signature in January.

Mitroglou has already scored 14 goals in 10 league appearances for Olympiacos. Arsenal are believed to have upped their interest after Wenger heaped praise on the 25-year-old. The Gunners manager admitted that the striker's goal scoring abilities cannot be neglected.

Arsenal are in need of a striker to partner Olivier Giroud to lead the Gunners' attack. The Frenchman, along with Nicklas Bendtner are the only two senior strikers in the squad and the latter has already expressed his desire to leave the Emirates.

Wenger had earlier admitted that the north London club will not sign a striker in January. However, with his latest comments, the Frenchman has dropped a major hint that the Gunners could make an approach for Mitroglou in the winter transfer window.

A move for Olympiacos striker is likely to further strengthen Arsenal's strike division and will also ease pressure from Giroud's shoulder. However, the Emirates club could face competition from Liverpool for the services of Mitroglou.
