The Astronomy Photographer of the Year competition, run by the Royal Observatory Greenwich in association with Insight Investment and BBC Sky at Night Magazine, is now in its seventh year. The 2015 contest received a record number of more than 2,700 entries from amateur and professional photographers around the world.

The winners will be announced on 17 September at a special award ceremony at the Royal Observatory. IBTimesUK presents the shortlisted images.
