Chelsea and Manchester United are in danger of missing out on Bayern Munich star Toni Kroos after Barcelona joined the race for his signature, according to reports in Germany.

The 24-year-old who has just one year left on his contract at the Allianz Arena - has rejected a chance to sign a new deal and the Bundesliga club are not willing to improve their current offer.

According to German magazine Kicker, Barca thinks the German fits the profile that Blaugrana boss Luis Enrique is looking for to strengthen the midfield.

However, they will have to fight for him with their rivals as recent reports claimed Kroos' agent met with Real Madrid officials a number of times last season regarding a summer move to the Santiago Bernabeu. The German international has told the Spanish club and other potential suitors he will not make any decisions over his future until after the World Cup.

Real Madrid will face fierce competition for his services because while Chelsea are keen on offering him €8.5 a year Los Blancos will not go over €6m. Barcelona are yet to table an offer.

Meanwhile Cesc Fabregas has since completed his long-awaited move to Chelsea while his former team-mate and Barca legend Xavi Hernandez - who claimed Cesc's departure is a "big loss" for the Catalan club - is also set to leave his childhood team to join Qatar-based outfit Al-Arabi SC.

The Catalan giants have also completed the expected signing of Sevilla midfielder Ivan Rakitic, who had been linked with a move to Liverpool and Manchester United in recent months.
