Police have cordoned off the scene where the woman's body was found.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after an elderly woman's body was found at a house in Barnet, north London.

Police were called by ambulance services at about 1.40am to an address in Aitken Road.

Officers forced open the door of the property and found a woman, believed to be 69, fatally injured inside. She was pronounced dead at 2.10am.

The woman's family have been informed, and a post-mortem examination is due to take place.

Police said inquiries would continue by detectives from the Met's Homicide and Major Crime Command, but officers are not currently seeking any more suspects in connection with the death.
