Arsenal and Manchester City both lost last night in the Champions League, as the Citizens succumbed to a 1-0 defeat at Borussia Dortmund, whilst Arsenal were beaten 2-1 by Olympiakos in Greece.

And there could be further woe for English sides tonight as Chelsea need to win, and have other results go their way, in order to progress. The Blues need to beat FC Nordsjaelland and hope Shakhtar Donetsk defeat Juventus.

Manager Rafa Benitez, still seeking his first win as Chelsea boss, said he was confident that his side could make it through.

"The only thing that I can try is to win our game and still I have confidence that Shakhtar can beat Juventus. I explained the other day when we were talking about this, they have some good players, players they want to be seen around the world, so I think it is important for them, a challenge, everybody will be watching the game carefully so they know that they have to perform."

Benitez has endured the anger of many Chelsea fans who refuse to accept him as Blues boss. His Spanish compatriot Juan Mata said that everyone needed to get behind their manager and show a united front.

"We are trusting him because Rafa wants the best for the team, all the players. If we want to win for example this World Cup in Japan or the Premier League or other competitions we have to be together. Now we have Rafa, a very experienced manager, he is trying to help us and we are trying to help him."

Manchester United are also in action tonight as they play Cluj. Having already won the group, manager Alex Ferguson is likely to rest a few of his players ahead of the all-important Manchester derby at the weekend.
