Just days after releasing a track claiming to be the King of New York, rapper Kendrick Lamar is leading the nominations for the 2013 BET Hip-Hop Awards.

The 26-year-old hip hop star, who is quickly building his own rap empire, is up for an impressive 14 gongs including Best Hip-Hop Video for his hit "Don't Kill My Vibe" as well as the prestigious Lyricist of the Year award.

He will also go head-to-head Jay Z's Magna Carta Holy Grail, Wale's The Gifted, J. Cole's Born Sinner and Nas' Life Is Good for Album of the Year.

"It's a privilege to be a part of it. For the most part, BET always acknowledges my talent and I always hold that as an honor, so I'm blessed," the West Coast native said.

Coming in a close second is Young Money artist Drake who is up for 13 awards including Track of the Year for his summer hit Started From the Bottom and Best Hip-Hop Video.

Power trip crooner J Cole earned 10 nominations, including both rapper of the year and producer of the year.

The 2013 BET Hip Hop Awards is scheduled to take place on September 28th at Atlanta's Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center. The show, hosted by Snoop Dogg, will be on 15 October at 8pm.
