This is the shocking moment a woman was nearly robbed on camera whilst she was giving a TV interview about increased crime in the area.

Brazil's TV Globo news programme stopped the passer by in Rio de Janiero to ask her if she thought crimes had increased in the area. But as she started to give her answer a young man attempted to snatch the woman's necklace.

The reporter tried to chase the young man, but he escaped through the congested traffic. The woman was unharmed and the thief failed to steal her jewellery.

Rio is known for its high crime rate, especially in the impoverished favelas outside the main city where gang and drug-related crime is rife.

Roughly 1,400 soldiers and police officers patrolled the streets in a show of force last month to try and bring crime in the area down ahead of the country hosting the World Cup in June.
