A British family from the Yorkshire town of Northallerton, have been attacked whilst staying in a villa in Turkey according to reports published on Tuesday (September 10) in British and Turkish media.

Local newspaper, the Yorkshire Post, reported that Catherine Bury, 56, her son Alex, 24 and her mother Cecille, 87 were shot in the early hours of Monday morning (September 9), whilst in their villa in Mugla's Ortaca Town in the Dalyan district.

Catherine was killed and the other two were wounded and rushed to hospital.

Reports said it all began when Turkish police arrested a gardener, identified by his initials V.A., last Friday after Catherine Bury said he had made death threats following an argument.

He was held overnight and released the next day.

The Turkish news agency DHA said the gardener then went to the Bury house early on Monday morning, with a gun, and started shooting at the three family members, wounding two and killing Catherine. Cecille and Alex were taken to Mugla University Hospital and, DHA said, doctors described their condition as critical.

DHA also report Dalyan police arrested the gardener after he gave himself up an hour after the shooting.
