Private Daryl Archer was arrested trying to smuggle 5kg of cocaine into the UK

A serving British soldier has been arrested for attempted cocaine smuggling at Heathrow airport.

Private Daryl Archer, 26, of 13 Air Assault Support Regiment Royal Logistic Corps, was charged with smuggling 5kg of cocaine into the country.

He was arrested at Terminal One on Wednesday after arriving in the UK on a flight from Brazil.

Archer is based at the Colchester barracks in Essex and is due to appear at Isleworth Crown Court on 23 January.

He faces a single charge of attempting to import the drug into the country and has been remanded in custody.
