The 67th Cannes Film Festival opened to a glamorous start as the red carpet rolled out.

While actresses and models put some of their best fashion moments forward on the red carpet, it was the Australian actress Nicole Kidman who stole the show on day one.

Nicole Kidman, whose film Grace of Monaco opened the film festival, was a vision in jewels. The film is a biopic on former American actress and Princess of Monaco, Grace Kelly.

The 46-year-old actress, who plays the role of Grace Kelly in the film, wore a bejewelled royal blue gown by Armani to grace the occasion.

The gown from Armani's spring 2014 couture collection featured a bodice studded with Swarovski gems both in the front and on the back down to the thighs, a sweetheart neckline and a flowing lace skirt.

The Academy Award winning actress said that she took some time to decide what to wear to the opening red carpet gala at Cannes 2014.

"There were three gowns and I picked the Armani," she told the Daily Mail.

"It's a princess dress with a twist. And it plunges a bit, right," she joked.

The awe-inspiring beaded lace gown made heads turn as Nicole paired it with diamond earrings and bracelet by Harry Winston. She completed her ensemble with a stylish hairdo keeping her tresses tied and in front at one side.

Nicole Kidman did not wear a neckpiece with her off-shoulder gown though she revealed that she was supposed to wear a five million dollar diamond necklace but it didn't match with her dress, according to the tabloid.

The necklace, created by Cartier, is a replica of a diamond and platinum piece belonging to Princess Grace. It was a gift to her from her husband Prince Rainier.
