A Russian poet has been accused of cannibalism after allegedly killing a woman he dated before frying her brain and drinking her blood.

Dmitry Luchin, from Valday, in the Novgorod region of Russia, allegedly attacked a woman, known only as Olga B, after they met on social media.

The gruesome details of the killing were reported by Russian media, who said that the 21-year-old allegedly murdered the woman with a wine bottle and a meat cleaver.

Anastasia Sadrieva, an official representative of the Russian Investigative Committee's Department for the Novgorod Region, told Lente.ru that Luchin had pleaded guilty to the horrific crime.

Reports suggest that the pair were drinking wine before the 45-year-old was allegedly strangled with a pillow.

Luchin then allegedly repeatedly smashed a glass wine bottle over her head and stabbed her in the chest four times after they had celebrated International Women's Day on 8 March this year.

Russia Today reported that he then used a hammer to open her brain case and ate her brain "piece by piece" before washing it down with the woman's blood.

He is accused of mutilating her body then stealing her tablet computer and a can of hair spray.

The former Russian army conscript is accused of murder and desecration of the dead, and faces life in prison.

On Thursday (9 November) Luchin was deemed "healthy and sane" by psychiatrists according to Lente.ru.

His interrogators said Luchin told them, according to The Sun: "I liked the taste of her brain. I decided to give it another try.

"Then I drained some of her blood into a glass, and picked up more that had spilled onto the floor. I needed blood to drink with my food."

Police say that Luchin was subscribed to an online site called "World of maniacs and serial killers" and he was a fan of Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer, who raped and murdered 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991.

The Daily Mail reported that police witness Alexandra, who was present at a re-enactment conducted by detectives with the accused present, told of the brutal way authorities believe Olga B was killed.

She said Luchin told them that "something clicked in my mind" before the killings and as his victim lay dying he drew a devil's symbol on the door and cut open her stomach.

He will appear before court in December or January next year.
