Stoke City have completed a move for former Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam on a four-year deal.

The 26 year old came through a medical on Friday afternoon prior to finalising his move to the Britannia Stadium, with the Scotland international available to make his Stoke debut against Wigan Athletic this weekend.

Adam made just 37 appearances and scored two goals after being signed by former Reds manager Kenny Dalglish from Blackpool in the summer of 2011 and admitted after signing with The Potters that regular first-team football was too good to turn down.

"The opportunity to play was getting less and I felt that at my age, I wanted to play every week and hopefully I'll get a chance to here," Adam said.

"It's a great Club that is going in the right direction - the foundations are here. They've been progressing ever since they've been in the Premier League and it's great to be part of it and hopefully we can have a successful time together."

Adam insists he is raring to go when he gets the call, and is looking to chip in with his fair share of goals as well as assists from the middle of the park.

"I'm ready. I've played three 45 minutes' and two whole games, so I'm ready, fit and available. Hopefully when the opportunity comes I can do this Club proud.

"I want to get back to scoring goals - that was one of the things I didn't really do last year. I'm hoping I can back to that and help the team improve on what they've done in the previous four of five seasons here."

Stoke boss Tony Pulis said: "It's no secret that we've been looking to bring more goals to the squad and Charlie is a fantastic signing in that respect," commented City's manager.

"Not only will his creativity and his eye for delivering a pass be a great asset to us, he scored twelve goals for Blackpool in the Premier League two seasons ago.

"In fact, he scored 28 League goals for Blackpool over two seasons which is a fantastic return for a midfield player. We are looking for more goals from all areas of the team and his arrival gives us more competition for places in that department."

Adam is the second exit from Anfield on deadline day after Jay Spearing completed his season-long loan move to Bolton Wanderers.

Spearing became surplus to requirements under new manager Brendan Rodgers, but it's yet to be seen whether the double exit will spark a move for Fulham midfielder Clint Dempsey.

The American has made no secret to boss Martin Jol of his desire to join The Reds this summer, submitting a transfer request and then refusing to play for the club against Norwich City in their opening Premier League fixture.

Jol said on Thursday: "With Dempsey there is still nothing on the table. Of course we are talking to different clubs but it is up to him. You know his desire to go to a Champions League club.

"It is always difficult in football, there are different clubs with different scenarios and different options. We know exactly what we want and if other clubs come up with the right deal we will probably do it."

Aston Villa have already reportedly submitted a bid for Dempsey in a hope to warn off Liverpool's interest, but it is expected that the 29 year old will reject a move to the Midlands and hold out on a switch to Merseyside.
