Jose Mourinho

Chelsea are preparing an £81m bid to secure the services of Atletico Madrid trio Diego Costa, Filipe Luis and Diego Godin, reports in Spain claim.

After a transitional season without silverware, Jose Mourinho wants to overhaul his squad this summer in order to fight for titles in his second year back at Stamford Bridge.

The Portuguese boss has been impressed by Atletico Madrid's amazing season – winning La Liga and reaching the Champions League final after beating Chelsea in the semi-final – and is looking to take advantage of their precarious economic situation to secure the services of some of the club's stars.

Reports in Spain claim earlier last week that former Chelsea midfielder Tiago has already agreed personal terms to re-join the Blues this summer as a free agent, while AS assures readers that Mourinho is also keen on bringing Costa, Luis and Godin to West London.

The Spanish side have officially declared that they are not willing to sell any stars this summer but Chelsea are considering meeting the release-clause of each of the three stars - and offer them a vast wage increase to tempt them to the Bridge.

With Filipe and Godin understood to have a buy-out clause of around £20m each, and Costa's standing at £28m, AS reports that Chelsea are preparing an £81m deal for the talented trio.

Mourinho is desperately looking for at least one top striker, a long-term replacement for John Terry and a left-back, after Ashley Cole recently confirmed his departure from West London.

AS also claims that Chelsea and Atletico are still negotiating on Thibaut Courtois' future - with Mourinho likely to having him back as his number one next season ahead of Petr Cech.
