Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann has been named La Liga player of the month for April amid recent speculation suggesting a summer move to Chelsea.

The 24-year-old France international was already heavily linked with a number of Premier League clubs during last summer after proving to be a sensation at Real Sociedad.

Arsenal and Tottenham were reportedly interested in securing his services but the winger instead decided to join Diego Simeone's side after La Liga champions agreed to match his €30m (£22m, $34m) release clause at Real Sociedad.

Griezmann has since developed from being considered one of the most promising young talents of the Spanish tournament into a world class start under Simeone.

Even though he struggled to adapt to the Argentinian's special demands during the first part of the campaign, he has scored 22 La Liga goals in 26 starting appearances, leaving him just behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in the top scorer table despite not being a number nine.

And having already won La Liga player of the month award in January, the former Real Sociedad winger has beaten the Barcelona and Real Madrid stars once again to April's prize after scoring eight goals in six games, including three braces against Malaga, Deportivo and Elche.

Recent reports claimed that Jose Mourinho has been alerted about his meteoric rise under Simeone and following the summer arrivals of Diego Costa, Filipe Luis and Thibaut Courtois he is keen on making a new addition from the Vicente Calderon ahead of next season.

While the Portuguese boss is also said to be interested in Griezmann's teammate Koke to bolster the midfield, Chelsea may be open to including Luis as part of the deals to secure their services after the Brazilian left-back has struggled to notch up regular playing time during his debut season with the Blues.
