Violent clashes broke out in the Chilean capital of Santiago as thousands of protesters took to the street to mark the 41st anniversary of the coup d'état that ushered in Augusto Pinochet's dictatorship.

After a peaceful start, clashes soon emerged between stone-throwing protesters and police using water canons. The protesters are seeking information about the thousands of people who were murdered under Pinochet's regime from 1973-1990.
