Real Sociedad have confirmed they have appointed former Manchester United boss David Moyes as their new manager.

The Scot was sacked earlier in April from his post at Old Trafford after just 10 months into his six-year contract. The 51-year-old has signed an 18- month contract with the La Liga outfit.

A statement on the club's official website read: "Real Sociedad have reached an agreement with David Moyes who has been appointed coach of the first team until June 30 2016."

"Details about the official presentation of Real Sociedad's new coach and who will form part of his technical team will be published tomorrow morning."

Earlier this month, Sociedad showed their former manager Jagoba Arrasate the door after a string of poor results. They were at the bottom of the league table when he left the club.

However, Sociedad managed to seal a crucial victory over defending champions Atletico Madrid in the latest fixture and the result has seen them move into the 15th place in the league table.

Moyes struggled at United after enjoying a great run at Everton, where he helped the Merseyside club to finish in the first half of the table with a limited budget. However, he was unable to replicate the same at United, forcing the twenty-time English champions to relieve him of his duties.

The former Everton manager would be hoping that he can emulate his Goodison Park success at Sociedad and help the Spanish club to finish the season in the first half of the season.
