A couple stabbed each other to death in a shocking case of domestic violence while their children watched on in County Clare, according to reports.

A man, 44, and a woman, 27, died from horrific knife injuries in a small village called Kildysart. Emergency services were called after the woman ran screaming into the street, bleeding heavily.

Inside the home from which she fled, a man was found with serious injuries in an upstairs bedroom.

Efforts were made to save the couple, but they were both declared dead at the scene.

The family, including two children aged three and five, moved recently to the remote village from South Africa.

Gardai (police) are not looking for anybody else in connection with the tragedy.

A police spokesman told the Irish Mirror: "At the moment this is likely to be a case of the couple stabbing each other. This would appear to be a domestic that went drastically out of hand."
