THQ has released a teaser trailer for the upcoming sequel to its Darksiders video game, simply called Death and set for a 2012 release on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

The one minute trailer features close-up shots of Death, one of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse, accompanied by slow, chilling piano music and a narrator describes Death as "a warrior that destroys civilizations."

"We are really looking forward to allowing players to take on the role of the ultimate anti-hero and this trailer gives them a real taste of what it will be like playing Death," said vice president for global brand management at THQ, Jim Huntley.

Darksiders 2: Death is a tale that runs parallel to the events in the original Darksiders game and is a journey which takes Death through various light and dark realms as he tried to redeem War, his brother and the horseman who was blamed for starting the Apocalypse in the original game.

The trailer ends saying "what starts with war...ends with death" and a close up shot of Death himself opening his eyes to stare into the camera.

The original Darksiders was released in January 2010 and won the Best Fantasy Game 2010 from IGN, and the sequal Death is expected to be a launch title for the hotly-anticipated Nintendo Wii U console, to be released in 2012.
