Frozen is set to return next year with an animated short made by the same team behind 2013's incredibly popular classic-in-waiting.

Frozen Fever will be directed by returning directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck and see Kristen Bell, Idina Mezel and Jonathan Groff reprise their parts as Anna, Elsa and Kristoff respectively.

Disney's official synopsis reads as follows:

In Frozen Fever, it's Anna's birthday and Elsa and Kristoff are determined to give her the best celebration ever, but Elsa's icy powers may put more than just the party at risk.

The short was announced during a US television special about the film called The Story of Frozen: Making a Disney Animated Classic, which aired last night.

Earmarked for Spring 2015, no details regarding how the special will be shown were announced. It is possible that it might be broadcast on US network ABC like Toy Story spin-off short Toy Story of Terror which aired last year.

Frozen became the highest grossing animated film ever, grossing $1.275 million (£775m) worldwide and passing Disney classics Toy Story 3 and The Lion King.
