EastEnders star Ricky Norwood has been suspended after footage emerged online of him performing a sex act while smoking marijuana.

The 29-year-old actor, who plays Fatboy on the BBC soap, received a two-month suspension following an emergency meeting with show bosses.

The disciplinary action was enforced despite Norwood apologising for the explicit eight-and-a-half-minute video which was allegedly short during a Skype conversation.

"Ricky Norwood has been suspended from the show for a period of two months with immediate effect," an EastEnders spokewoman said.

"Ricky would like to apologise to EastEnders' viewers for any offence caused and for bringing the show into disrepute."

Although Norwood, who has played zany Fatboy since 2010, has not lost his job he is said to be on very thin ice after his reckless behaviour.

"He's being hauled in so we can get to the bottom of this. Nobody's happy about it - he's let himself and the show down," a source had said.

"This is incredibly reckless by Ricky given his position on a BBC family soap. He's seen as a role model.

"It's made very clear to cast members that they have to behave, especially when it comes to sex and drugs."

Norwood started off his EastEnders career in the online spin-off show E20. He was crowned Best Newcomer at the National Television Awards after joining the main show.
