Elderly Woman Killed in Abbey Wood Hit-and-Run

An elderly woman in her 60s has been killed in a hit-and-run in Abbey Wood.

The incident happened in Finchale Road near the roundabout with Eynsham Drive at around 11am when she was hit by an alleged stolen Landrover.

Police said the driver of the car fled the scene on foot.

Emergency services including the air ambulance attended but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Met Office spokesman said: "The male driver of the car made off from the scene on foot - enquiries are underway to trace him.

"Officers from Greenwich attended the scene; the incident will be investigated by officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit."

Motorists are warned to avoid the area as Eynsham Road remains closed while police carry out their investigation.
