Millions of Americans have been lining up at polling stations to cast their ballot in what seems to be one of the closest elections in US history.

However some of them have been doing so in very unusual places.

On the East Coast the devastation caused by hurricane Sandy forced authorities to find alternative safe locations for people to vote.

But in other parts of the US polling stations have been found in casinos, shopping centres, a pet store, beauty salons and other unusual venues, providing photographers with some great photo opportunities.
