Tatiana Maslany in Orphan Black
Orphan Black's Tatiana Maslany has been snubbed in previous years but this time round she earns her first nomination for outstanding lead actress in a drama series YouTube) (Temple Street Productions / BBC America / Bell Media

Every award show has certain nominations that will either happily surprise audiences or disappoint them. And no other award show does this quite like the Emmys. Television fandom is bigger than ever and when people get attached to their favourite shows, they want to see them earn the accolades they believe they so rightfully deserve.

The 2015 Emmy nominations are no different, from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt fans seeing their favourite comedy show is up for a number of awards, to avid Scandal watchers up in arms that once again it is not up for outstanding drama series.

But despite there being a few snubs – The Good Wife failed to get itself into the drama category and Laverne Cox surprisingly did not get a best supporting actress nod for her work on Orange Is The New Black – this year seems to have more good shock votes than bad.

Orphan Black fans everywhere were probably the most excited, as lead actress Tatiana Maslany earns her first ever Emmy nomination after the popular sci-fi show's third season. She plays multiple characters on the show, portraying clones Sarah, Alison, Cosima, Helena and Rachel, while also playing guest clones in the occasional episode. She even voiced a scorpion in the most recent series.

Due to Maslany playing so many diverse roles, often in the same scene, fans were adamant she deserved some kind of official recognition and 2015 could mark the year they finally get their wish.

Another new name we are pleased to see in the running is relative newcomer to the comedy game Amy Schumer, who has managed to bag herself an outstanding comedy actress nomination as well as her show, Inside Amy Schumer, being up for outstanding variety sketch series.

Netflix has proved its worth, getting nominations for many of its original programmes, including House Of Cards, Orange Is The New Black, Bloodline, Derek and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

Not quite so surprisingly, though, Game Of Thrones earned itself a whopping 24 nominations, leading the pack with the most nods, while usual suspects American Horror Story, Homeland and Modern Family got several mentions when the announcements were made last night (16 July).
