Tottenham Hotspur manager Maurcio Pochettino admitted Dele Alli still has "a lot to learn" after he kicked Fiorentina defender Nenad Tomovic during their 1-1 draw in Florence on Thursday night (18 February). The 19-year-old midfielder has been one of Spurs' most impressive players this season, but Pochettino said he is still in the developmental stage of his career.

Alli was lucky to escape a red card for the the kick. "We need to try to teach him," Pochettino said, according to the BBC. "He is a young player and he has a lot to learn about elite football."

The England international joined Tottenham last year after making 62 appearances at League One level. Pochettino admitted his lack of experience is still evident on occasions.

"It is his first season in the Premier League at Tottenham," he said. "He came from League One, he needs to learn a lot. But I didn't see it. Some people say 'yes', say 'no', so I don't know."

Meanwhile, Pochettino also expressed confidence that Tottenham – who are currently second in the Premier League – will be able to compete on multiple fronts this season. The Argentine made six changes for the Fiorentina game, but insisted he has confidence in all of his players.

"We have a strong squad to try to fight for every competition, we need to use all of the squad," the Tottenham boss explained. "It is not important to talk about using the squad. It is important how we compete, we have big motivation."
