Toho Studios has released the new trailer of Godzilla: Resurgence, where the monster lizard can be seen destroying Tokyo. The original movie was first released by the same studio in 1954.

The 2014 Gareth Edwards-directed Godzilla reboot saw the monster cause mayhem in Honolulu and San Francisco, but this time around it is Toyko, where the destruction will happen. Edwards is currently working on post-production of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but is expected to start filming his Godzilla sequel soon. Edwards's Godzilla sequel will release on 8 June 2018.

Toho had previously announced that it would come up with its own reboot of Godzilla, following the success of Edwards' 2014. Toho will use enhanced digital effects to make the creature look more scary, and the destruction scenes more damaging, which were missing in the last installment of the film released some 10 years ago.

The trailer opens with the monster swinging its long tail over electric wires and homes, and people running for cover on the outskirts of Tokyo. The next scene shows the angry monster in full, making its way towards the city. Then the monster makes its presence felt by reducing buildings to rubble. The entire trailer is layered over a sound-track and with no subtitles it is difficult to figure out what the actors are saying.

The movie has been directed by Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi. The cast of the film includes Hiroki Hasegawa, Satomi Ishihara and Yutaka Takenouchi. The movie will release on 29 July 2016 in Japan. As of now, Toho Studios has not disclosed an official release date for the US.
