Manchester City continued their unbeaten run on Sunday night at Anfield. But Liverpool were able to force an 1-1 draw against the League leaders in a somber evening filled with the memories of Wales national team manager Gary Speed who has apparently committed suicide.

Roberto Mancini's boys were not definitely at their best, but Liverpool came up with a remarkable show especially in the second half. They did deserve a winning goal which never came their way.

Vincent Kompany struck on 31 minutes but the euphoria was short-lived. Two minutes later, Joleon Lescott fired at his own post levelling the score. City were never able to cross the barrier since then. In fact, City are hugely indebted to their goalkeeper Joe Hart who has virtually saved his side from the first league defeat since May 7.

The evening was marked by some drama as well. Substitute Mario Balotelli was sent off for a second bookable offence after just 18 minutes in the field. Mancini later accused Liverpool's players of deliberately trying to "provoke" a red card from Balotelli.
