Actress Sunny Leone has apparently landed a role in Shah Rukh Khan's upcoming movie Raees just days after actor Aamir Khan said he was open to working with the Jism 2 actress. The Ragini MMS 2 actress is said to be performing an "item number" to the hit 1980s song Laila O Laila.

The song was made famous by actor Feroz Khan and Zeenat Aman in the movie Qurbani released in 1980. An item number in Indian movies is a dance sequence, often titillating, played to a snappy song.

"This is a big leap for Sunny [Leone] who has so far been avoided by A-list actors because their wives disapproved. Now with Aamir declaring he would love to work with Sunny, Shah Rukh has actually taken the plunge, breaking the taboo created among A-listers regarding Sunny's past career," a source told DNA.

"Raees is set in the '80s and there was need of a song sequence. The makers unanimously selected 'Laila O Laila' which perfectly fits with the dark, gangster theme and period. It was suggested to Shah Rukh and it was his idea to get Sunny on board. A lavish set is being created in Mumbai and rehearsals are on in full swing," a source was reported as saying by the Mumbai Mirror.

"Sunny will begin shooting for Raees next month. It will be a two-day schedule," the source added.

The movie is being directed by Rahul Dholakia and co-produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar. Sidhwani and Akhtar, who are fans of the classic number, acquired the rights to the Amit Kumar-Kanchan song.

"Shah Rukh, director Rahul Dholakia and producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani felt the film needed that sizzling number, that tadka. And that's how Sunny Leone came into the picture," the source said.

The film will hit theatres during Eid in July.
