A State Trooper has been shot dead by an unidentified assailant at a barracks in Pennsylvania Google maps

State troopers have confirmed a manhunt is underway in Pennsylvania, US after an unidentified assailant shot dead at least one officer at Blooming Grove police barracks in Pike County.

Local reports said at least one coroner had been called to the scene and over 100 police vehicles, including helicopters and a SWAT team from Lackawanna County, were attempting to find those responsible. No-one has been arrested and local roads have been sealed off. Interstate 84 was briefly closed but is now believed to have reopened.

Blooming Grove is a small township of 4,000 people 35 miles east of Scranton. The barracks is set in a wooded area which is now being searched.

State police spokeswoman Maria Finn confirmed there had been one fatality but the condition of the other shot trooper is unclear. State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan will brief the media on the rapidly unfolding situation shortly.
