Overview

Punjab managed a fantastic win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in their last game, a result driven largely by Adam Gilchrist's 54-ball 85. The former Australian wicketkeeper helped his side chase down Bangalore's 174/5, a total made possible by Chris Gayle's customary big hitting; the West Indian smashed 77 off 53 balls, with support from captain Virat Kohli's 57 off 43 balls.

Kings XI's win means they remain in contention for a knock-out berth but need an almost improbable run of results to qualify. The team from northern India need to win their remaining two games and hope Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad lose all their games. The results needed cannot be ruled out but it certainly is an unlikely proposition, given Punjab still have to play Mumbai Indians.

As of now, Punjab are sixth in the table, with 12 points and six wins from 14 games. Both Bangalore and Hyderabad have 16 points each and the former has only one game left - at home to Chennai Super Kings.

Delhi Daredevils travel after yet another defeat. The side from the Indian capital were beaten by CSK in their last match, after MS Dhoni's 35-ball 58 led the two-time champions to a 11th win in 15 games. CSK posted 168/4 in the first innings and superb spells from Mohit Sharma (2/22), Ravichandran Ashwin (2/19), Albie Morkel (3/32) and Dwayne Bravo (2/19) ensured Delhi fell 33 runs short. Australian David Warner's 44 was Delhi's only highlight with the bat.

Delhi are second from last in the IPL table with only a marginally better Net Run Rate keeping Pune Warriors rooted to the bottom. The latter recorded a seven-run win over defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders on Wednesday evening.
