Real Madrid have revealed that versatile defender Alvaro Arbeloa has suffered a sprain in his left knee just nine days before their Champions League final against Atletico Madrid on 28 May. James Rodriguez is also said to have missed training with the rest of his team mates on Thursday 19 May as Los Blancos continued their preparations for the final of Europe's elite football competition. Zinedine Zidane was however handed better news regarding Lucas Vazquez's injury as the winger was able to train.

The Spaniards ended the domestic campaign last weekend after beating Deportivo de la Coruna on Saturday in the last La Liga game of the season, seeing Barcelona seal the title once again as the Catalans won 3-0 at Granada to finish one point ahead their arch rivals.

The club is also out of the Copa del Rey final to be played on Sunday between Barcelona and Sevilla allowing Real Madrid to begin preparation for the Champions League final earlier this week with the only doubt being Lucas Vazquez, who missed the game against Deportivo due to a knee injury.

The winger, who earlier this week received his first Spanish call-up ahead of Euro 2016 following an impressive campaign with Los Blancos, now looks to be ready for the European encounter with Atletico Madrid after he completing the last two training sessions.

However, under-fire James Rodriguez has sparked concerns about his participation in the game after being forced to train away from his team mates. The Colombian international has fallen out of favour at the Santiago Bernabeu this season but should he be fit, is still expected to have a role to play in the final coming on from the bench.

"Real Madrid continue their preparations for the Champions League final. The Whites, who face Atlético Madrid on Saturday 28th May (8:45pm, CEST) in Milan, completed their third training session of the week at Real Madrid City. Arbeloa and James trained using the indoor facilities," the club revealed.

Meanwhile, Arbeloa could also be a doubt for the game after the club revealed the former Liverpool defender picked up an injury to his knee during a training session.

"After tests carried out today on the player Álvaro Arbeloa he has been diagnosed with a minor sprain in his left knee. His recovery will continue to be assessed," the club revealed on its official website. Manager Zidane will be hopeful of avoiding any more injuries in order to have his first XI available to face Atletico Madrid in the club's bid to secure an 11th Champions League crown in Milan.
