Jennifer Lopez is reportedly joining up with Antonio Banderas for the film version of the Chilean miner rescue, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The movie, called "The 33," is based on the true story of the 33 Chilean miners who were rescued after being trapped underground for 69 days in 2010.

Antonio Banderas is slated to play the role of Mario Sepulveda, the charismatic miner nicknamed "Super Mario" who became the voice of the trapped men. Martin Sheen will play a miner's father. Also appearing in the film will be Brazilian actor Rodrigo Santoro. Patricia Riggen is to direct the film that will reportedly be shot this Autumn in Chile.

The miners, who set a world record for survival underground, were hoisted to the surface in a metal capsule in a rescue operation on October 12-13, 2010 that was watched by hundreds of millions of people worldwide and triggered celebrations across Chile.

There is no word yet on what part Lopez will take on.
