The husband of reality star Kerry Katona was reportedly arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery. George Kay is accused of being involved in the theft of thousands of pounds worth of jewellery in a carjacking, according to reports.

The Sun reports that the former rugby player was taken into police custody after three men allegedly assaulted the driver of a Mercedes vehicle before stealing two holdalls filled with jewellery. Three men are then said to have attacked another man on a nearby street in Bushey, Hertfordshire, before escaping in his Honda Jazz vehicle.

Police are believed to have discovered the abandoned Honda in Mill Hill, north London. A source told the website that Katona, who married Kay, 35, in September 2014, was unaware that the former bodyguard had been arrested. They said: "Kerry doesn't know that George has been arrested. When she finds out she will be heartbroken. It is the last thing she needs after the year they have had."

Herts police confirmed to the newspaper that a 35-year-old man from Oxfordshire had been taken into police custody while three other men from London, aged 20, 21, and 66, were also being held.

The police said in a statement: "A 35-year-old man from South Oxfordshire was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery on July 25. He has been released on police bail until August 20."

Kay, who is Katona's third husband, has one child with the former Atomic Kitten singer, a daughter named Dylan-Jorge born in April 2014.
