Kevin Anderson was lucky to qualify to the semi-final as David Ferrer had to forcefully retire in between the match with a left adductor strain. The Spaniard raced to victory in the opening set of the game with a 6-2 win against the fifth seed.
However, the South African bounced back to lead the second set 4-2 before Ferrer found it impossible to continue the game.
Meanwhile, Alexandr Dolgopolov managed to oust Ivo Karlovic in the quarter-final registering a 6-4, 7-6 (4), victory in straight sets.
Both men are yet to drop a single set in the tournament and will be eyeing a place in the final. The winner of the first semi-finals will face either Andy Murray or Grigor Dimitrov who play in the last semi-finals, later in the day.
