Overview

Kings XI made it to the Qualifier 1 after finishing on top of the table with 22 points from 14 games. In the group stages, the Punjab-based side lost only three games, suffering defeats at the hands of the Mumbai Indians on two occasions and once against the Knight Riders.

In their last fixture, George Bailey's side registered a comfortable seven-wicket victory over the Delhi Daredevils in Mohali. The visitors were bowled out for 115, which was chased by the Kings XI with more than six overs to spare.

Meanwhile, the Knight Riders finished the table in the second spot in remarkable fashion after defeating the Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Eden Gardens. Gautam Gambhir won the toss and decided to bowl first as the Sunrisers managed 160 runs from their innings.

To make it to the Qualifiers 1, KKR needed to win with 28 balls to spare. They were given a good start by their skipper Gambhir and opener Robin Uthappa, who is the top scorer in the tournament. After the dismissal of the two, Kolkata suffered a swift collapse, losing two quick wickets.

However, it was Yusuf Pathan's brilliant knock of 72 runs from 22 deliveries that saw his side reach the target of 161 in 14.2 overs. The hard-hitting batsman became the fastest player to score a half-century in the IPL which came from 15 balls.

Punjab have lost only one out of their last five games, while KKR are unbeaten in the last seven IPL fixtures.

A victory for either side will see them seal a place in the final of this year's IPL. The losing team will then face the winners of the elimination tie between the Chennai Super Kings and defending champions Mumbai Indians.
