Liverpool manager Brendan Rogers has quashed rumours suggesting he will be rushing to add to his squad when next month's transfer window opens following the loss of two key players.

Captain Steven Gerrard and striker Daniel Sturridge are expected to be out of the game for up to six weeks with hamstring and ankle injuries respectively.

The loss of Jose Enrique has added to the speculation as the defender is not expected to make a return to the squad until into February following knee surgery.

Rogers however insists that he is likely to stay clear of January's transfer action.

In an interview with Sky Sports News the Northern Irishman explained that January can be a hard window.

"While we were very successful in it last year - with Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge - we just won't be buying for the sake of it. We will wait and see what is out there."

Following his side's rise to second in the Premier League table, Rogers expressed his pleasure with the performance and commitment shown by his players as they continue to buy into the principles he set out at the beginning of the season.

"For us, the way we have been positive and aggressive in our attack has been excellent and our understanding of the model of how we want to work here is improving," he said.

"We have shown that we can win games while ensuring we play well."

The Reds lost Sturridge through injury after the striker suffered ankle ligament damage in training, which could rule him out until February. In his absence, Rodgers has opted to change his plans and not send Raheem Sterling out on loan in order to bolster his attacking options.

Gerrard is also set to miss the entire festive period, although Rodgers has estimated his skipper will be fit to return in a month, rather than after six weeks as initially feared.
