Brendan Rodgers is set to return to former club Liverpool for defensive reinforcements this summer after his recent appointment as the manager of Scottish side Celtic. The former Reds boss is keen on signing out-of-favour defender Andre Wisdom, who has failed to break into the Liverpool first team on a consistent basis since making 19 appearances during the 2012/13 campaign. He has spent the last three seasons on loan at Derby County, West Bromwich Albion and most recently Norwich City.
The Liverpool Echo understands that the Northern Irishman is keen on making a move for the 23-year-old defender as he faces an uncertain future at the Merseyside club. Jurgen Klopp will look to reshape the squad ahead of his first full season in-charge of the Reds and look to get them back to winning ways with Champions League qualification being the minimal requirement.
The German coach has already started to have an influence with regards to their playing style, while also making moves in the transfer market. Klopp has made three signings since his arrival, with Joel Matip and Marko Grujic being signed in January, while goalkeeper Loris Karius became his first summer capture.
Wisdom is a versatile defender, who can play all across the back four, but following three loan spells it is unclear if he will get a chance to prove himself with the first-team squad. Strengthening the defence will be one of Klopp's main priorities in the summer. Dejan Lovren, January signing Matip and Joe Gomez are his current options owing to the uncertainty surrounding the futures of Martin Skrtel and Kolo Toure.
The Norwich City loanee had revealed talks with Klopp regarding his future at the club but was not given an indication if it lay at Anfield. According to the Echo, the Reds are yet to receive a formal offer but it is believed that Rodgers is preparing an offer of around £3m ($4.3m) to take the defender to Parkhead in the summer.
