Liverpool are reportedly set to seal the signing of Manchester United target Adam Lallana next week, according to the Daily Mail.

The Southampton star was strongly linked with a move to the Merseyside club, while their arch rivals Manchester United are also believed to be in the race for signing the 26-year-old midfielder.

The Reds manager Brendan Rodgers has already expressed his admiration for the England international after admitting Lallana is a "terrific player".

The report claims Liverpool are set to make a £20m bid in bringing Lallana to Anfield. England boss Roy Hodgson will announce his World Cup squad on Monday and the Southampton midfielder is likely to board the plane to Brazil for the summer event.

The Metro reports Lallana has already informed his current employers that he wants to leave St Mary's Stadium after the end of the season as he has set his sights on joining Liverpool next campaign.

Hodgson's pre-World Cup preparation kickstarts on 19 May in Portugal and Rodgers wants to agree terms in acquiring the services of Lallana. The former Swansea manager is keen on landing the England international as Lallana will the complete his move to Liverpool in the next week.

Lallana came up through the ranks of the club's youth system and has been a key figure in Southampton's midfield since breaking into the first team.

The Saints believe the bid offered by the Anfield club seems to fit their bill. They are ready to part ways with Lallana and allow him to join Liverpool after the end of the current campaign.

The Saints midfielder has been in impressive form this season, scoring nine goals and managing six assists. His brilliant run has seen him bag the Southampton Player of the Year Award.

Rodgers has revealed that Liverpool will bring in players in the summer who will walk into their first team. Lallana's addition is likely to see him get a place in the Reds's starting lineup next season.

The Northern Irishman is set to start the summer spending spree by signing Lallana from Southampton and he will be hoping that more quality will be added to the squad in the coming transfer window.
