Liverpool and Manchester United have suffered a blow in their pursuit of signing Adem Ljajic after the forward's agent admitted the player will not leave AS Roma this summer.

The 22-year-old joined Rudi Garcia's side from Fiorentina last summer. In his debut season at Roma, the Serbian international saw his first team appearances being limited as he made 17 starts in the Serie A last campaign.

Ljajic scored six goals and managed five assists for Roma last season. His form for the Italian club had attracted interest from Liverpool and United as the two Premier League giants were reportedly willing to sign the Serbian star.

The forward's representative Fali Ramadani revealed there has been interest from several clubs for his client's services. However, Ljajic's agent has put the recent rumours linking the forward with a move away from Roma to bed.

"I can assure everyone that Ljajic will remain at Roma. There is no intention from the player to leave the club. I have said it for some time and I continue to say it," Ramadani told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"The rumours that he will leave have absolutely no foundation. We have received offers for him but we have not taken them into consideration. They remain where they are," Ljajic's agent concluded.

Ramadani's comments would come as a major boost for Roma after Ljajic hinted that he would leave the Italian outfit earlier in April.

"I haven't been playing much recently, but football is like that, the coach decides who plays," Ljajic told Sky Italia in April.

"I gave my all and I think it went well. I came here to play, there are five games left, then when the moment arrives to talk, we will sit around a table and see what the best course of action is."

With Ljajic now set to continue with Roma beyond the summer transfer window, Liverpool and United will be forced to end their interest and look elsewhere in the market.
