Chinese women's Olympic swimming team were subject to a peeping Tom in a Leeds sports centre

A man who tried to spy on the Chinese women's Olympic swimming team in their changing rooms may be spared a jail sentence.

Declan Crosbie, 25, admitted to peering over the top of cubicles as members of the team, who were training at the pool ahead of the games, got changed at a sports centre in Leeds.

He locked himself in a toilet cubicle and when challenged by staff initially answered in a woman's voice, Leeds crown court heard.

Members of the Chinese team lodged a complaint after spotting him looking over the top of cubicles while they were changing.

When Crosbie, who has previous convictions for voyeurism and trespassing, left the toilet staff saw that his fly was undone.

Judge Peter Collier said that Crosbie, who pleaded guilty to trespassing with intent to commit a sexual offence, could be forced to complete a treatment course for sex offenders rather than a jail sentence.

Sentencing was delayed until 17 September.
