South West Trains have been brought to a standstill as commuters are warned that delays could last until 1pm on 7 December Getty

A person was killed after being hit by a train at a station in south-west London. Emergency services were called to Raynes Park train station shortly before 9.30am on 7 December.

The incident caused severe delays during the morning rush hour, with South West Trains warning services would be disrupted until 1pm. Delays of up to 60 minutes should be expected.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: "Shortly before 9.30am on Monday, December 7, we were called to Raynes Park rail station following reports of a person having been struck by a train. Our officers are currently at the station – along with colleagues from London Ambulance Service – and have determined that a person had been struck and killed by a train."

British Transport Police confirmed the incident was "ongoing" and officers were working to identify the victim and determine how they got on to the train tracks. Many commuters took to Twitter to commend the way South West Trains was handling the situation.
