Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins has been remanded in custody over child sex allegations.

The 35-year-old appeared via video link at Cardiff Crown Court from Parc prison, where he has been since his arrest earlier in December.

Present in the courtroom to see her son was Watkins' mother, dressed all in black.

He is facing charges that he conspired to rape a one-year-old baby and four other charges, including that he made and distributed child sex abuse images and possessed a collection of bestiality pornography.

His fellow defendants are both women aged 24 and 20-years-old, from Bedford and Doncaster, who cannot be named for legal reasons. The 24-year-old faces the same charges as the Lostprophets frontman. The younger female has not been charged with conspiracy to rape but has been accused of the other charges.

Watkins spoke only to confirm his name at the preliminary hearing. He was refused bail and will stand trial at Cardiff Crown Court on 11 March.

Lostprophets sold 3.5m albums and hit the top of the charts with their 2006 album Liberation Transmission.
