Lucifer
Lucifer returns to Fox on 1 January 2018 Fox

In last week's episode 10, Lucifer made a shocking discovery about Chloe's boss, LAPD Lieutenant Marcus Pierce – who was revealed to be the immortal Cain, the world's first murderer. However, the cliffhanger ending left the devil's fate hanging by a thread as the show has gone on a three-week hiatus.

Fans will now have to wait until 1 January, 2018, when the series returns with season 3 episode 11 – titled City of Angels – on Fox at 8pm EST, to find out what unfolds next. This Monday, however, no new episode of Lucifer is on air.

After the dramatic turn of events during the mid-season finale, the devil finds himself at the receiving end of some explosive new information.

Not only does the Sinnerman plot – something that Mr Morningstar had been obsessing over throughout the course of season 3 – come to an end but also Pierce turns out to be more than just a mortal being.

But Lucifer's obsession also costs him his relationship with Maze in last week's episode, who ended up abandoning the part-time LAPD counsellor.

While fans have to endure a 21-day wait to see what's in store for Lucifer and his close ones, the New Year's special episode is set to be a grand flashback.

Taking back to the time where it all began, the special episode of Lucifer – aptly titled City of Angels – recounts the events that unfolded before the devil decided to hit the streets of Los Angeles. Accompanied by his brother Amenadiel and loyal Mazikeen, Lucifer will take on the mortal world in defiance of his father, the God.

"In a flashback episode that takes place when Lucifer first came to LA, Amenadiel comes to retrieve his fallen brother, but is shocked when he is mugged. Amenadiel enlists Lucifer's help to track down the mugger and Lucifer, in turn, offers his assistance - but only in exchange for a favor."

Interestingly, it is also around the same time when Chloe and Dan were still together, which means fans should also expect a smitten officer Decker stealing a few kisses every now and then.

A sneak peek of the upcoming New Year special teased: "Chloe and Dan - who are still married - investigate the murder of an MMA fighter, Aidan Scott, at the hands of the same killer who mugged Amenadiel in the all-new City Of Angels? winter premiere episode of Lucifer."

Catch up with Lucifer in the new episode airing on Monday, 1 January, 2018 at 8pm EST on Fox.
