A teenager has been jailed for five years after raping a woman outside a nightclub before returning indoors to continue celebrating his 18th birthday.

Luke Walker, 18, "read all the wrong signals" from a female student during a night out in Newport, south Wales.

The pair met at Delilah's nightclub in the city and kissed before she agreed to his suggestion that they go outside.

The victim - also aged 18 - believed it would only involve more kissing but Walker then attacked her in an alleyway near the nightspot.

Afterward, Walker, of Cwmbran, south Wales, returned to Delilah's and continued partying with his friends.

At Newport Crown Court, he admitted rape and was jailed for five years, reported Wales Online.

Defence lawyer Andrew Taylor said Walker was a "very immature man".

He added: "I'm afraid that Luke Walker read all the wrong signals and behaved the way that he did.

"He will never recover from what happened that night. The event will remain with him for the rest of his days."
