HGV fire
M25 shut after HGV fire on anti-clockwise stretch between junctions 27 and 26 Highways Agency

A stretch of the M25 in Essex remains closed while resurfacing work takes place after a lorry fire last night, the Highways Agency has said.

The fire broke out on the anti-clockwise carriageway between junction 27 and junction 26 for the M11 and Waltham Abbey at 7.30pm yesterday.

Severe delays are expected while the carriageway is closed. Traffic is currently being diverted off at junction 27 onto the M11 via the A406 and A10 before rejoining the M25 at junction 25.

The HGV was carrying waste including paint, tyres and paper before several explosions were heard.

The remains of the vehicle were cut into sections and removed from the scene. The lorry driver was not injured in the incident.

A spokesman from the Highways Agency has urged motorists to avoid the area.
