Manchester United host Everton is what is expected to be an intriguing battle between former Toffees manager David Moyes and his successor Roberto Martinez.

Overview

Manchester United have been well off their best this season following the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson and are currently nine points off the top of the table, a deficit which was unthinkable in the Scotsman's era. Moyes has yet to find the right balance but United have shown glimpses of promise and are now on an impressive run of 12 games without a defeat.

United have still been somewhat inconsistent in that time as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Cardiff City before securing a hugely impressive 5-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League. They were once again held to 2-2 draw by Tottenham last weekend and Moyes will be keen to secure a victory against his former club who currently sit above the Manchester club in the league table.

Everton have fared pretty well after the departure of Moyes, with Martinez taking the team to fifth in the table, three positions above United. A positive result at Old Trafford will be a major feather in his cap and give his team some much needed belief to challenge for the top four this season. They come into the game on the back of a 4-0 smashing of Stoke City at the Britannia and will hope to produce another impressive display against United.

David Moyes: "We have to win all of our games. I'm concerned we're not as close as we'd like to be [to Arsenal] but it's a long season and hopefully we'll be there or thereabouts. There are a lot of games to go. I think the Premier League is tight and we'll try to stay on the shirt-tails and put ourselves in a good position at the start of next year."

Roberto Martinez: "Sometimes the result in is the lap of the gods; it can be a bad decision from a referee or a piece of magic from a player. We need to have a substance to our performance so we can take ourselves to the next level. I want to play well, be the better side and win. But I would settle for playing well, being the better side and losing. It's about the long-term."
