Manchester United take on San Jose Earthquakes in their second pre-season game of the season at the California Memorial Stadium on 21 July (22 July in UK).

Where to watch live

Kick-off is set for 4am BST (22 July). Live coverage of the match will be available on MUTV and MUTV HD.

Overview

Manchester United will be looking to make it two victories on the trot in America, following their 1-0 win over Club America in the opening fixture of the International Champions Cup 2015. Morgan Schneiderlin scored the goal for the Red Devils and Louis van Gaal will be hoping that other summer signings are able to hit the ground running, ahead of the league season that begins on 8 August.

Bastian Schweinsteiger, Memphis Depay and Matteo Darmian all played a part in the game and the manager will be looking to take valuable notes from their performance as he looks to select his best eleven for the season ahead.

Wayne Rooney is currently the only striker at the club and the manager is likely to put James Wilson through the races before deciding on his next step in the market.

Javier Hernandez is set to return to training on 27 July along with Angel Di Maria, with question marks over the future of both players. Anders Lindegaard is currently marshalling the posts in the absence of David de Gea, who is unavailable due to injury.

Meanwhile, the Earthquakes come into the game on the back of a 5-2 hiding from LA Galaxy and will be looking to put the result behind them and give United a run for their money.

What managers say

Louis van Gaal: "Now for every position I have two players. Normally they play in their own position but nevertheless Paddy McNair had to play right full back in the first tour game and that is not his position. He can do it but it's not his position and that is football because Antonio Valencia was injured. We have brought Darmian for the second position behind Valencia and now already because of that injury, McNair has to play there. We have sold a lot of players - 17 in my period as manager - and we never talk about that."

Dominic Kinnear: "Teams in Europe like United have some of the best players in the world, and you always want to gauge yourself against the best and see how well you do - I know the guys were really excited when they saw the game on the calendar. We know there are some great individuals at United and that they also play very well as a team. They will be training at our stadium as well, so maybe we'll be able to keep an eye on what they're doing and get to know their coaches. United's visit will be great for the players and staff here and for the San Jose Earthquakes fans too."
